A Monroeville woman is recovering in the hospital after she said her and her daughter were attacked earlier this week inside their apartment.

Cherie Kelley told police she began receiving threats weeks ago when she called police about a friend and neighbor who was being beaten up by her boyfriend.

Kelley said the woman’s boyfriend and another man forced their way into her Cambridge Square apartment Tuesday night and attacked her and her 15-year-old daughter while her two young sons looked on.

“All I could hear was my kids screaming,” Kelley said. “I got up and I was covered in blood. The blood was everywhere and in my eyes so I couldn’t see.”

Officials said Kelley has a broken eye socket, several broken bones and multiple bruises.

“I could see my daughter get hit and she flew across the room,” Kelley said. “She’s only 15 years old. I just can’t believe it. I don’t think any women deserve to be beaten up.”

Authorities said by time police showed up, the attackers were gone.

Police haven’t released any information about potential suspects, but said they have a search warrant for one person of interest.
